WTI crude has climbed above 100 dollars a barrel from about 85 dollars in mid-August, after fighting between US and Iranian forces resumed on September 2 and tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz collapsed to well under 2 million barrels a day from 8 to 9 million beforehand. No large crude carrier has exited the strait since fighting resumed, yet the strait remains open to reduced traffic rather than fully closed, keeping a complete shutdown a tail risk rather than the base case.
