WTI crude has climbed 25 per cent in three weeks after drone strikes shut down Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, a route that had carried 4 to 5 million barrels a day around the closed Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea. The shutdown left both of Saudi Arabia's major export routes constrained at once, pushing the kingdom's crude supply to its lowest level in decades according to the International Energy Agency. Canadian energy shares have moved directly with the commodity, even as the broader Toronto stock index has lagged the sector.
