WTI crude has climbed roughly 51 percent since early July as the Strait of Hormuz conflict enters its third month, with commercial shipping through the strait reduced to a handful of vessels a day. The United States has redirected, disabled, or boarded dozens of vessels enforcing its blockade of the strait. Elevated oil prices are now a documented input into a Federal Reserve rate decision, not only a story for energy markets, though a full closure of the strait remains a tail risk rather than the base case.
