Six major markets closed the same session with sharply different reactions to the day's news. WTI crude and the VIX volatility index each moved by a full percentage point or more, while the Canadian dollar, the TSX, and the Government of Canada 10-year yield all stayed within a third of a point of unchanged. Canadian Natural and Suncor rallied more than 1% on the oil spike, but new US import restrictions and Ottawa's own tariffs weighed harder on RBC, BMO, and Shopify than energy strength offset.
