The Canada Revenue Agency's prescribed rate has held at 3% for six straight quarters, a rate advisors can lock in for the life of an income splitting loan at inception. The rate is reset quarterly from Government of Canada Treasury bill yields, and those yields have been climbing toward a two year high. A sustained rise would push the prescribed rate itself higher in a future quarter, narrowing the window to establish a new loan at the current level.
