Bar chart showing Canada's retaliatory tariff rates by product category, taking effect September 8, 2026.

Canada's retaliatory tariffs take effect September 8, covering roughly $27.6 billion in annual US imports across about 700 product categories. Ottawa paired the deadline with expanded financing: a new $500 million BDC liquidity stream lowers the eligibility threshold to $1 million in annual revenue, opening tariff-relief loans to smaller incorporated businesses. The Regional Tariff Response Initiative's non-repayable contribution cap also rises, from $1 million to $3 million, giving affected importers more room before the deadline lands.
