Canada's retaliatory tariffs on $27.6 billion of U.S. goods took effect at midnight, adding urgency to a Canadian Federation of Independent Business survey of 1,721 members already coping with tariff-driven cost pressure. Fifty-nine percent say metals tariffs hit hardest and 48% report lower revenue, but the sharpest number is 19%, the share of tariff-affected businesses that say they cannot last six months under the current status quo. Ottawa has paired the tariffs with a $7.5 billion liquidity package.
