The reversal came a day after oil past $100 a barrel lifted energy stocks but weighed on yield-sensitive banks, with Royal Bank, TD and BMO each falling more than 1 percent while energy and utilities were the only sectors to gain. The Dow fell 0.97% and the VIX rose 4.8% to 16.90 as disappointing megacap earnings compounded the oil-driven risk-off tone. USD/CAD held near 1.409, with the loonie's usual oil-linked support offset by broader US dollar strength.
