Line chart showing the S&P/TSX Composite down 3.4 percent from its August peak despite energy stocks leading gains.

The S&P/TSX Composite has fallen 3.4 per cent from its late-August peak even though several of Canada's largest energy producers have posted gains as WTI crude climbed 25 per cent over three weeks. Technology sector weakness tied to concerns about AI spending has offset the energy tailwind, leaving the broader index unable to follow its own best-performing sector higher. A Federal Reserve rate decision due later in the week adds further uncertainty for rate-sensitive sectors on top of the technology pullback.
