The decline from the August 25 close spans the United States tariffs imposed on August 22 and the Canadian counter-tariffs of September 8. Friday's gain followed the September labour force survey, which showed job losses and a rise in the unemployment rate. Canadian markets were closed for Thanksgiving, with the Bank of Canada's October 28 decision ahead and the 10-year Government of Canada yield higher than at the start of July.
