Step chart showing the CRA prescribed interest rate holding flat at 3 percent since the third quarter of 2025.

The Canada Revenue Agency's prescribed rate has held at 3% for five straight quarters, but the fourth-quarter rate is set from Government of Canada Treasury bill yields auctioned in September, which have not yet happened. Canada's 10-year bond yield climbed to a 26-month high this week, and a broadly rising yield curve makes an increase from 3% a real possibility. Prescribed rate loans lock in whatever rate applies when the loan is made, so families considering income-splitting arrangements have a narrowing window before a new rate takes effect.
