The rate used for family income-splitting loans has stayed flat while broader inflation pressure builds. Canada's new retaliatory tariffs took effect this week, and the Bank of Canada has flagged rising inflation risk from tariffs and oil prices, raising the odds this rate rises before its next quarterly reset. A loan set up before that happens locks in the current rate for its full life, provided interest is paid by each following January 30.
