Line chart of Brent and WTI daily closes, each indexed to its own September average, from September 7 to October 5, 2026.

Indexing each benchmark to its own September average puts a higher-priced Brent and a lower-priced WTI on a common footing. Brent has stayed close to its September level, while WTI has slipped further below its own. Canadian producers measure results against WTI, so they have absorbed more of the oil decline, while October 28 Bank of Canada hike odds follow the global benchmark and the inflation risk behind them has barely moved.
