Gold miners did most of the lifting on Thursday, pulling the TSX back toward its August 31 level. The gold miners ETF rose 4.0% and the TSX rose 1.55%, while the energy ETF slipped 0.5%. The move followed a one-day fall in the U.S. 10-year yield, which tends to support gold. The XGD close of 86.9 on Wednesday is the low for the period.
