Line chart showing the S&P/TSX Composite falling to a six-week low despite rising oil prices.

The S&P/TSX Composite fell to a six-week low after a US procurement threat hit Canadian engineering and infrastructure names hard, with several major firms losing more than 2 per cent and one aircraft maker's shares sliding on a separate threat to its US sales. The decline came even as crude traded at multi-month highs, a level that would normally lift the index's heavy energy weighting. A pipeline operator's newly announced acquisition of a US crude oil business was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise difficult session.
