The CRA's prescribed rate for family income-splitting loans has held at 3% for five consecutive quarters, a rate that locks in at the loan's inception and applies for its full life. The fourth-quarter rate is being set now, based on the average yield on three-month Government of Canada Treasury bills through July, so a loan funded before quarter-end still secures the current 3% figure. Missing that window means locking in whatever rate takes effect October 1 instead.
