The Government of Canada five-year yield has risen for two straight weeks as markets price in a near-certain Federal Reserve rate hike, pushing above the level the Canada Revenue Agency's prescribed rate has held at for six straight quarters. Prescribed rate loans and shareholder loans to Canadian-controlled private corporations are both benchmarked to that rate, and a sustained rise in the underlying yield raises the odds of a higher reset once the current quarter ends.
