Line chart of gold spot prices from July 22 to August 13, 2026, showing a fresh record high Thursday.

Gold closed at a fresh high Thursday at 4,491.45 US dollars an ounce, up 0.41% on the day, extending a rally that has added more than 12% since mid-July. The move came on trading volume well below the prior week's pace, even as a cooler US inflation print reshaped rate expectations differently on either side of the border. Gold's advance stood in contrast to a pullback in the mining stocks that had helped carry the TSX to a record close a day earlier.
