Gold settled the week at 4,661.60 dollars, up roughly 5.1%, its third straight weekly advance, after an expanded US Treasury bond buyback briefly pushed the 30-year Treasury yield down to 5.19% before the move fully reversed by Friday's close. Gold did not surrender the gain even as the yield round-tripped back near where the week began. The metal has kept climbing on a fiscal-credibility story tied to the US national debt crossing 40 trillion dollars, a driver separate from the Hormuz-linked story pushing oil higher the same week.
