Line chart showing Canada's 10-year government bond yield climbing to 3.67 percent, its highest level since May 2026.

Canada's 10-year government bond yield rose to 3.67 percent Monday, its highest level since May, as strong Canadian data collided with a weak US jobs report. Canadian employment jumped well beyond forecasts in July and second quarter GDP topped the Bank of Canada's own estimate, while US payrolls fell for the month. The Bank of Canada's next decision is September 2, and Wednesday's US inflation report will help clarify whether the Federal Reserve has room to cut rates.
