Scorecard chart comparing six assets' same-day percentage moves Tuesday, with gold the worst performer amid Hormuz tensions.

Gold, oil, the Canadian dollar, the TSX and bond yields posted mixed moves Tuesday afternoon even as tensions in the Strait of Hormuz genuinely escalated, with Trump declaring the strait "new US territory" hours before a vessel was attacked and a crew member was hurt. Gold was the day's worst performer, falling more than 1%, while a fresh 19-year high in the 30-year US Treasury yield pulled attention away from the geopolitical headlines. The TSX slipped roughly 140 points intraday as gold miners weighed on the index.
