Line chart showing Brent crude climbing 4.5% to $95.70 after a U.S. strike near the Strait of Hormuz.

Brent crude closed at $95.70 on September 2, up 4.5% over two sessions, after the U.S. struck Iran's Larak Island on August 30. The Pentagon said the target held rocket launchers being prepared to fire naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz, a step beyond the shipping harassment the market had been pricing. Iran retaliated with strikes on U.S. assets in Jordan and the UAE, the first major exchange between the two sides in over a month.
