Line chart showing Brent crude oil prices rising to 89.76 dollars a barrel amid renewed Strait of Hormuz tensions.

Brent crude traded near $89.76 Tuesday, up 2.3 percent, after President Trump said Iran must pay compensation before Strait of Hormuz talks can resume. Iran is demanding an end to the US naval blockade, sanctions relief and war-damage payments in return, leaving both sides with conditions the other rejects. A tanker attack in the strait and a separate strike on a Saudi refinery widened the standoff over the weekend, even as Iran and Oman separately edge toward a narrower shipping-corridor deal.
