WTI crude settled near $82.15, up about 4.1%, its strongest close in a month, as the interim ceasefire between the US and Iran unravelled and the two exchanged a sixth consecutive night of strikes. Gold, which would typically be expected to rally on the same escalation, instead closed near $3,977, its lowest level since November, having lost more than 3% on the week even after Iran struck civilian infrastructure in Kuwait. President Trump has said further US strikes on Iranian power infrastructure begin next week absent a diplomatic breakthrough.
