The drop came even as a third oil chokepoint disruption opened overnight in Kazakhstan, on reports that Pakistan and China are working to revive US-Iran talks, a diplomatic signal that outweighed the fresh supply risk. The pullback erased nearly all of Thursday's spike, pushing WTI to its lowest close since July 20 despite a rising count of Gulf and Red Sea disruptions. Notably, the ten-year Treasury yield did not move off Thursday's cycle high, a gap between oil and bond markets that carries into next week's Federal Reserve decision.
