One oil shock is working through the Canadian index in opposite directions. Energy is up 7.5% since August 31 and gold miners are down 13.1%, against a 1.9% decline for the composite, because gold is falling with the rate path as the U.S. 10-year yield rose 43 basis points. Financials fell 1.7%, in line with the index. Each series is rebased to 100 at its August 31 close.
