Line chart showing the S&P/TSX Composite at a three-week low even as oil twice crossed $100 a barrel.

The S&P/TSX Composite closed at a three-week low, down 3.7 per cent from its August high, even as WTI crude settled above $100 a barrel twice in the same stretch. Technology and financial shares have led the declines, with weakness in base metals and mining issues also weighing on individual sessions. Energy strength has offset part of the broader pullback rather than reversing it, leaving a commodity-linked index trading more on this week's Federal Reserve decision than on events in the Strait of Hormuz.
