Candlestick chart of the S&P/TSX Composite daily trading with volume from September 4 to October 2, 2026, and an August high line.

The index remains several per cent below its August closing high, but volume has stayed within a narrow band on nearly every session, which points to orderly repricing rather than liquidation. The worst session since September 4 came on September 23, when the two-year Government of Canada yield jumped. On October 5, which the chart does not include, Cenovus fell after agreeing to buy Athabasca Oil and UBS downgraded the stock to Hold.
