Chart showing the CRA prescribed interest rate holding at 3 percent for a sixth consecutive quarter.

The Canada Revenue Agency's prescribed interest rate has held at 3 per cent for a sixth consecutive quarter, the longest stretch of stability at this level since a run that ended in 2022. The rate governs family income-splitting loans and locks in for the life of the loan, so an arrangement set up now keeps that rate even after the CRA eventually raises it. Interest must be paid in cash by the following January 30, or the loan permanently loses its tax attribution protection.
