Bar chart of the annual Canada Pension Plan contribution saving for employees earning from $20,000 to $70,000 after the 2027 rate cut.

The base Canada Pension Plan contribution rate falls on January 1, 2027, with the employee and employer rates each dropping by 0.20 percentage points. The saving applies to earnings above the basic exemption, and the employer saves the same amount, while a self-employed worker pays both portions and saves twice as much. At about $11 a month, the amount is small enough that the planning question becomes where the money goes, such as TFSA room or an RRSP.
