Line chart showing Canada's unemployment rate falling to 6.5 percent in June 2026.

June's jobs report added 18,200 positions, nearly double the Street's forecast of 10,000, pulling the unemployment rate to its lowest level since January. Despite the beat, market-implied odds of a Bank of Canada hold at its July 15 decision barely moved, staying anchored near 94%, with bond yields easing rather than repricing toward a hike. The rate has now touched this level twice in three months, after climbing as high as 6.9% in April.
