Core inflation has returned to roughly the Bank of Canada's 2% target, the mirror image of August 2025 when headline inflation was the lower reading. Gasoline explains the difference: excluding it, inflation was 2.2%. The Federal Reserve has already raised rates to a range of 3.75% to 4.00% while the Bank of Canada remains at 2.25%, and the two-year Government of Canada yield sits about a point above the policy rate.
