The yield climbed back after the Federal Reserve raised rates and the Bank of Canada did not, leaving the gap between the two policy rates at its widest of the cycle with no scheduled decision from either bank before late October. Because the 10-year yield anchors five-year fixed mortgage pricing, the move works against relief for homeowners renewing soon, whatever the overnight rate does.
