WTI crude steadied near $84 Friday after swinging more than $8 across the prior five sessions, on track for its largest monthly gain since March as the conflict escalated rather than resolved. Vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, cited earlier in the week as a sign of normalization, reversed sharply, and Iran targeted US assets in Kuwait and strait tankers Friday. The same volatility pushed the Government of Canada five year bond yield up 7 basis points, a rate that feeds directly into fixed mortgage pricing for Canadians renewing soon.
