WTI crude oil climbed to $81.78 a barrel, up 16% over the week, after the US-Iran ceasefire collapsed and Washington reimposed a naval blockade of Iranian ports. Gold moved in the opposite direction, falling 3.2 percent and breaking below $4,000 for the first time since July 1, as the same oil-driven inflation pressure pushed Federal Reserve rate-hike odds higher. Rising rate expectations make non-yielding gold less attractive, overriding the war's usual safe-haven pull.
